Holiday Festival (with City of W-S Department of Recreation and Parks) – third Wednesday in December – On Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, L.I.F.E. W-S, Inc., was invited by the City of W-S Department of Recreation and Parks to present the first Holiday Festival to provide homeless women with children with a holiday meal, clothing, toys, and other much-needed items to make their holidays brighter. We served about 150 people, and plan to make this an annual L.I.F.E. event.
The annual Festival for the Homeless is held on the First Saturday after Labor Day from 2-6 p.m. in Gateway Commons Park, 1580 Oak St., Winston-Salem, NC, 27101. In addition to an afternoon of top-tier musical and spoken-word entertainment, Living Is Finally Enjoyable W-S, Inc., provides services such as haircuts, food, clothing, and bags with useful items to take away.
At past festivals, the Winston-Salem State University Mobile Health Care Unit has been on site to do vital signs testing and provide health-care information to our guests. L.I.F.E. W-S, Inc., provides a Kids’ Zone for children who are experiencing homelessness in their families.
Our entertainers have included the Voice of the Festival for the Homeless and Master of Ceremonies Ronald Reginald King, Dale Cole, the Big 4 Choir, The Claptones, Real Love, spoken-word artist Spencer Aubrey, singer-songwriter Tiffany Thompson, Magical Men, Uncle Watson’s Widow, Signature Soundz, and EJ Production (Earnest Johnson) providing sound.
The Best Western-Plus on University Parkway gives discounts to those traveling to the Festival for the Homeless.
Admission to the event is free. Donations to support the Festival and to help L.I.F.E. W-S, Inc., continue its mission may be sent to Living Is Finally Enjoyable W-S, Inc., P.O. In 2024, L.I.F.E. W-S, Inc., plans to establish an annual fund-raiser, as we move toward our goal of providing single-family dwellings for homeless women with children and supporting them with resources as they transition into independent residences.
